The process

Six steps from enquiry to NZ delivery.

Our import management process is built to remove uncertainty at every stage — from the first conversation through to product arriving at your NZ site. Here's exactly what happens when you work with us.

1

Tell us what you need

Every import starts with a clear brief. For project and trade customers, we need to understand your product type, specifications, volumes, delivery timeline, and any compliance or certification requirements for importing products into New Zealand.

For online customers, selected stocked products are available to purchase directly — browse, specify, and order with NZ delivery.

The more detail you give us upfront, the faster we can respond with factory options and indicative pricing. If you're unsure what you need, that's fine — our NZ team can help you work it out.

2

Factory selection & pricing

Our China-based sourcing team identifies and shortlists verified manufacturers that match your specifications, volume requirements, and quality expectations. We compare options across quality, lead time, and landed cost — and present you with a clear recommendation.

Pricing is structured around commercial volumes to reduce unit costs and deliver better value through scale. Online products are sourced through the same audited supply chain.

3

Compliance & QA coordination

Before a single unit goes into production, we assess the product for suitability in the New Zealand market. Where required, we coordinate testing, documentation, and compliance alignment with relevant NZ standards.

This is the step that separates a managed import from a gamble. We raise issues here — not after the container arrives in New Zealand.

Importing building materials into New Zealand? We coordinate NZ compliance documentation including test reports, technical specifications, and product certificates as part of this step.

4

Payment & production

Once specifications and pricing are confirmed, production is authorised through a structured two-stage payment:

  • 50% deposit secures the production slot and confirms materials
  • 50% balance is required prior to factory dispatch

This structure keeps production moving while protecting your timeline. Manufacturing progress is tracked by our in-country team throughout.

5

Freight & customs

We coordinate the full import logistics into New Zealand through approved NZ-licensed freight and customs providers — managing container planning, booking, tracking, customs clearance, and MPI requirements end to end.

  • Bulk and project orders delivered to site, warehouse, or distribution point
  • Online orders shipped directly to your nominated NZ address

Single-source logistics management reduces delays, errors, and cost uncertainty across the full supply chain.

6

Delivery & ongoing supply

Product delivered to your NZ site, warehouse, or nominated address. For builders, developers, and trade suppliers we support staged deliveries, repeat orders, and long-term supply programs — giving you a reliable construction supply partner you can plan around.

For online customers, our NZ team is available for product information, availability, and after-sales support.

FAQ

Common questions about importing into New Zealand.

Everything you need to know before you start.

What are the typical lead times from order to delivery in New Zealand?
Most orders allow 60–90 days for manufacturing, followed by approximately 21 days for ocean freight and delivery into New Zealand. We confirm estimated timelines upfront once product scope and quantities are locked in.
Can you provide samples before committing to a bulk import order?
Yes. We first provide product images, specifications, compliance documentation, and pricing so you can shortlist the right options. Once a product is selected, samples can be arranged. Sample freight may be charged depending on size, weight, and quantity. We don't supply samples for free prior to order confirmation.
What warranties apply and how are issues handled?
Product warranties are provided by the manufacturer and vary by category. If there is an issue, notify us promptly with photos and a brief description. We assess with the supplier and confirm the most appropriate remedy — replacement, credit, or repair — depending on the nature and scale of the defect.
Do you work with first-time importers in New Zealand?
Absolutely. We regularly work with New Zealand businesses importing for the first time. We guide you through every step — product selection, compliance, payment, logistics, and delivery — so you don't need prior import experience to work with us.
What are your minimum order quantities for bulk importing into NZ?
MOQs vary by product category and manufacturer. For project and bulk orders we work with you to find the right volume that makes commercial sense. Online stocked products have no minimum order requirement.
How do you ensure product quality before it ships from China?
We coordinate independent quality control inspections at the factory before dispatch is approved. This covers agreed specifications, finish, quantity, and packaging. Issues are resolved before the container leaves — not after it arrives in New Zealand.
Can NZ Imports source building materials that meet New Zealand compliance standards?
Yes. Compliance coordination is a core part of our service. We assess all products for suitability in the New Zealand market and coordinate testing, documentation, and compliance alignment with relevant NZ standards before production is approved.
What is the payment structure for bulk import orders?
For bulk and project orders, payment is split into two stages:
  • 50% deposit before manufacturing begins — secures the production slot and confirms materials
  • 50% balance before factory dispatch
This structure protects both parties and keeps production on track.
